Well it’s been awhile… however I come Bering good news, the official web site is up and running with a Fan Art area, Forum and more. You can check it out at VodgeRPG.Com or by clicking the Vodge Site link in the links section of this blog. When visiting the official site I encourage everyone to register with the Forum so you will be able to interact with play testers and ask questions about the readiness of the game, you will also receive a direct responces from me, as I check the Forum once a week. Feathery Flyer
1st level Enchanter spell
Range: 0
Duration: 1 round/level
Casting Time: 6 AP
Area of Effect: The caster
Upon casting this spell, a sheet of paper feathers grow from under the enchanter's arms, extending along his sides all the way to his feet. The paper feathers appears to merge with the caster's skin and clothing. If the enchanter spreads his arms and jumps from a height, he may glide through the air. For each foot of elevation, the caster can glide five feet horizontally. Thus, an enchanter jumping from a 10-foot wall could glide up to 50 feet. Gliding characters have a movement rate of 5. An enchanter attempting to carry more than his normal weight allowance plummets to the earth upon takeoff. When the spell expires, the feathers instantly change back to plain sheets of paper. If the caster is airborne, he immediately plummets toward the ground.
The material component is 25 sheets of paper.

Long Sword

This is the common melee weapon in the world of Vodge. Long swords are 40 inches long with 32 inches of its length being a double-edged blade. These one handed weapons weigh only 6 pounds making the Long sword easy to carry and wield in combat. This sword does 1D6 points of damage and is a formidable weapon in the hands of a skilled swordsman.

Mirror Reflection
1st level Warlock spell
Range: 0
Duration: 2 rounds + 1 round/level
Casting Time: 6 AP
Area of Effect: Special
The mirror reflection spell creates a shimmering, mirror like area of air before the warlock that moves with the caster. Mirror reflection gives the warlock a bonus of + 5 to defense against all attacks. The spell does not affect the vision of the warlock.

Mark II Stun Gun

The Mark II fires a "pulse" of electrical energy up to 30 feet. This blast of energy causes a neurological disruption, shutting down the brain functions of the target. This will effectively stun a target for 1D10 rounds. Since the effects of the weapon are temporary and leave no lasting problems with the target, the Mark II has become a preferred weapon for Law Enforcers worldwide.

Range: Touch
Duration: Special
Casting Time: 6 AP
Area of Effect: 3 Sheets
By casting this spell the enchanter can control how visible ink is on a sheet of paper. Each casting will affect up to three sheets of paper in the same way. The caster can choose to have the ink faded, barely visible or completely invisible until the caster cancels the spell. This spell cannot add ink to a naturally faded sheet of paper.

Multi-Edged Sword
This beast of a sword is four feet long and weighs 30 pounds, with a blade that is 36 inches long and eight inches wide at it’s midpoint. Designed to cut or tear flesh from any angle and able to cleave bone the Multi-Edged sword is one monstrous weapon. Typically a two-handed weapon, any character with strength of 8 or greater may wield this weapon with one hand.

It’s been a wile sense the last update to the blog. I’m still working on the last part of the world history as well as play testing and some minor rewrites. The official web site looks like it might be up and running sooner then I expected. I’ll be posting that information as soon as I have it. I will also be adding artwork to the spell of the week entry and some pictures of the first draft character sheet.

Air Shield
1st level Warlock Spell
Range: 0
Duration: 5 rounds/level
Casting Time: 6 AP
Area of Effect: Special

When this spell is cast, an invisible barrier of air comes into being in front of the warlock. This shield provides the equivalent protection of AR 4 against hand-hurled attacks (axes, darts, spears, etc.), AR of 3 against small device-propelled attacks (arrows, blow darts, etc.), and an AR of 1 against all other forms of attack. These benefits apply only if the attacks originate from in front of the warlock.

The Thorn Whip
A Whip is a long lash made of braided leather that is thicker at the handle, narrowing to a slender cord at the end. Whips are typically 20 feet long and are carried coiled up and attached to a belt.

The Thorn whip adds a thin cable through the center of the braid allowing small barbs to poke through the leather. With the added barbs the Thorn Whip is a very useful weapon for rending flesh from bone.

...As the Dark Millennia came to an end, Matrix explorers set out in ocean going ships...

According to archives at the Matrix library in Matiren City, Bar, several hundred Matrix survived the explosion and rebuilt there society on this planet. With most of their technology lost due to the destruction of the Raxion the Matrix were forced to start over. This time without technology was referred to as the Dark Millennia or D.M. and lasted for roughly 30,000 years. While the matrix were recreating their society, the world was going through changes as well. Multiple species of plants and animals were evolving, with some developing an even higher level of intelligence.

As the Dark Millennia came to an end, Matrix explorers set out in ocean going ships to examine the rest of the planet. Based on these records, we know that it was matrix scholars that named the planet, moons, continents, oceans and a majority of the plants and animals here as well. This was an era of exploration and discovery called the renaissance, or R.E.

Throughout this age the Matrix discovered three advancing races of animals, the first they called Fledglings, due to the immaturity of the race. The second were named Blax after a Matrix stone, because of the ebony color of there skin, and the third race was classified as Tanarix after the discoverer. The Matrix counsel then made a decision that any intelligent races found would only be named and observed. No one was to interfere with the natural progression or development of another race’s society or social structure.

...the real history of the planet seems to have started around 50,000 years ago...

Welcome to a world of wonder, where technology and magic clash in a battle for supremacy. A world full of majestic mountains, vast forests, dark jungles and crowded cities. The planet Vodge is nearly 80% water with four continents and countless islands dotting it’s massive oceans. Vodge is the third planet from the sun and shares the solar system with six other celestial spheres, as well as three natural satellites of its own. These moons differ in size and name, the smallest moon being, Legacy, the middle moon Nitidus and the largest of the moons Luminosus, all lighting up the night sky.

Scientists speculate that the planet itself is more than four billion years old based on geological carbon dating. However, the real history of the planet seems to have started around 50,000 years ago with the crash of a Matrix starship. According to the logbooks handed down by the ancestors of the Matrix, a ship, an explorer called The Raxion that was carrying a crew of five thousand, experienced some form of anomaly that damaged the ship and forced it down on this planet. The impact was said to have caused a massive explosion that separated the continents and decimated the majority of life on Vodge. Many scientists speculate that the blast also released a form of radiation that altered the natural evolution of life on the planet. There is no data to back up the radiation theory, scientists do know, however, that there was a drastic change in the formation of plant and animal life in 30,000 years following the blast.

I apologize for the lack of updates over the weekend; I was off doing some play testing with a new group. I am currently working on the planets history and the world map for the game, and will be adding more to the blog later in the week.

Starting on Monday, August 14, 2006. I will be outlining a weapon and a spell from Vodge every week, the weapon of the week will be posted on Mondays and Spell of the Week will be posted on Wednesdays. Also I am hoping to have the official web site up and running before October. So keep checking in, more information will be added as we get closer to the launch date.

...This time the game would be completely new and built from the ground up ...

In 2004, I resumed playing RPGs, this time on a weekly basis, and in early 2005 the players asked, “Whatever happened to that game you made?” Consequently, after months of hearing them say things like, “Why don’t we play that?” and the inevitable, “You really should make a new game.” I made the decision to start over one last time. This time the game would be completely new and built from the ground up around three guiding principles: character customization, ease of play, and fun.

The new game, named Vodge is being designed to pay homage to the V.A.O.D.G. Game. However this is in no way a copy or remake of V.A.O.D.G. and players looking for that will be sadly disappointed. At this time I started thinking what could the game have. I needed races, classes, easy to learn and use rules and a back-story, what would the world be like. With every genre from fantasy to science fiction already made into a pen and paper RPG I had to decide which would give me the most flexibility in terms of uniqueness. As well as whether I would have technology or magic governing the world.

Not wanting to choose one over the other I went with both, a world where magic and technology maintained a balance in the game. Vodge is considered a Sci-Fi game due to the alien world in which it takes place; you won’t fine any humans or elves here. After a very rough draft was finished and some crude character sheets were created, we played it. Even with the game in its infancy several friends and colleagues of mine suggested that I publish it. Vodge is now in the final stages of play testing and is projected to be available for release fourth quarter of 2006.

...We hadn’t stopped playing RPGs, we had just moved on to what was new on the market, and V.A.O.D.G. was forgotten...

For the four and a half years we lived in Arizona V.A.O.D.G. was never played and only mentioned once or twice. We hadn’t stopped playing RPGs, we had just moved on to what was new on the market, and V.A.O.D.G. was forgotten. In 2002 I moved back to my hometown in Oregon and found that one my friends that had gone to Arizona had moved back as well. We got together a group of friends and were back to playing pen and paper role-playing games on a nightly basis.

After several months some of are friends were asking about playing V.A.O.D.G., and it looked like this little homemade game was going to make a return. However in all the moving we had somehow lost the original set of rules as well as everything else we had created in 1993. This little glitch didn’t stop us for long as we decided to rewrite the game from the ground up. Using as much information about the game we could remember we started over.

Unfortunately this would not last; my roommate and I had a falling out and several of my friends moved away again. As many of the new rules were stored on my roommate’s computer, V.A.O.D.G. would again be lost.

History of the Game Part 1

In 1993 a group of my friends and I all played pen and paper role-playing games, and were getting bored with what was on the market at the time. After about a week we decided that we could create an RPG from are favorite parts of the RPGs we were growing tired of, sort of like a Frankenstein’s monster of RPGs.

Well, within a week of working on the game, we had the rules, the races, classes, character sheets and everything we needed to play. The game was appropriately named V.A.O.D.G. an acronym for Various Amounts Of Different Games.

When the game was finished every role-player I knew was playing V.A.O.D.G. and every other RPG we had played in the past had taken a backseat to this game. This lasted for the next two years until I went into the military. When I came back, V.A.O.D.G. was still there but my friends had cut back on the amount of role-playing they did. We were no longer as hardcore as we were in the early 90’s. Then in February of 1997 I moved to Arizona, and a year later so did two of my closest friends. V.A.O.D.G. at this point was all but dead.

Welcome to the Vodge blog, this site is my home on the web for the pen and paper role-playing game (RPG) I am creating. This blog will have information about Vodge and Vodge related thoughts and ideas. Vodge is set in a science fiction (Sci- fi) world with six unique playable races on a strange and fascinating planet.

In the coming months this blog will be used to showcase art work for the book, information on the game, and where I am in the creation process. If you are a gamer I encourage you to read this blog and leave feedback for me, if you’re not in to RPGs and you stumbled on to this site I recommend you take the time to look, you never know what interesting stories you might find.
